Corporate Overview
The Select Comfort Story
Select Comfort (NASDAQ: SCSS) was founded in 1987 by an inventor and former innerspring mattress maker who simply wanted a better night's sleep. After long research, he created a mattress that uses air chamber technology. This new technology proved to be the best medium for providing comfort and support by allowing a person's weight to be distributed more evenly, thus minimizing pressure points that can cause restlessness and back pain. To this new invention he added the unique attribute of personalized comfort adjustability for both sides of the bed, now known as The Sleep Number®. The many benefits of this new technology became readily apparent, and soon after The Sleep Number® revolution began.
Select Comfort is Minneapolis, Minnesota-based and delivers net sales of more than $558 million annually, has 2,500 employees, 26 U.S.-issued or pending patents and more than 50,000 customer testimonials. Customer testimonials praise the company and its revolutionary Sleep Number® bed by sharing their own experiences of better sleep, back pain relief, higher energy and reduced morning stiffness. Independent clinical studies have verified many of the claims made by the Customer Testimonials, including back pain relief, improved restorative sleep, increased energy and more. Select Comfort has been ranked the number-one bedding retailer in the US by Furniture/Today for the last five years.
